Fire TV with Vega OS: which models can install an IPTV player

Since autumn 2025 Amazon has been putting a new system, Vega OS, on its new Fire TV Sticks. Vega OS is not Android: it cannot install Android apps or APK files, so BurgTV does not work on those models, and neither do other players distributed as APK. Here is how to tell which system your Fire TV runs, which models are affected and what your options are.
What Vega OS is
Amazon announced Vega OS on 30 September 2025, together with the Fire TV Stick 4K Select. It is built on Linux components, not on Android. Apps for Vega OS are made specifically for it and come only from the Amazon Appstore. Amazon has said that its future Fire TV Sticks will run Vega OS. Fire TV devices sold with Fire OS, the Android-based system, still run Fire OS, and BurgTV works on them.

BurgTV needs Fire OS based on Android 7.0 or later: the oldest Fire TV models, still on Fire OS 5, are not supported.
How to check your Fire TV
- On the Fire TV, open Settings > My Fire TV > About.
- Look at the software version. If it says Fire OS followed by a number (for example Fire OS 7 or Fire OS 8), BurgTV can be installed.
- If the version is shown only as OS with a number starting with 1 or 2, the device runs Vega OS and cannot install BurgTV.
- Still unsure? Check the model name on the box or in your order: the 4K Select has “Select” in its name.
Careful with the names
The same name can hide two different systems. The Fire TV Stick 4K sold since 2023 runs Fire OS; the Fire TV Stick 4K launched on 30 September 2026 runs Vega OS. The same goes for the Fire TV Stick HD: the 2024 model runs Fire OS, the 2026 model runs Vega OS. Before buying, check the operating system in the product details, not just the name.
What works and what doesn’t on Vega OS
- Works: apps from the Amazon Appstore built for Vega OS.
- Doesn’t work: Android apps and APK files, including BurgTV and the players installed with Downloader. Vega OS has no option to install apps from unknown sources.
- Vega OS has a Developer Mode, but it is meant for developers testing their own Vega apps with Amazon’s tools: it does not install APK files.
- For some Android apps, Amazon streams the app from the cloud when its developer joins Amazon’s program. BurgTV is not available that way.
- This page does not explain ways around these limits, and BurgTV does not support them.
What you can do if you have a Vega OS Fire TV
- Use a Fire TV with Fire OS, for example a Fire TV Stick 4K Max, a Fire TV Stick 4K Plus or a Fire TV Cube: installation is explained in the Fire TV guide.

Frequently asked questions
Can I install BurgTV on a Fire TV Stick 4K Select?
No. The Fire TV Stick 4K Select runs Vega OS, which cannot install Android apps or APK files.
How do I know if my Fire TV runs Vega OS?
Open Settings > My Fire TV > About: with Fire OS the software version says Fire OS followed by a number; with Vega OS it shows only OS with a version starting with 1 or 2.
Will my Fire TV with Fire OS be switched to Vega OS?
Amazon has not announced moving existing Fire OS devices to Vega OS. If that changes, we will update this page.
Is there a BurgTV app for Vega OS?
Not at the moment. BurgTV works on Fire TV devices with Fire OS, on Google TV and Android TV, on Android phones and tablets, and on iPhone and iPad.
Why doesn’t Downloader work on my new Fire TV?
Because on Vega OS Android apps and APK files cannot be installed at all, whichever app downloads them.
Which Fire TV should I buy to use BurgTV?
One that runs Fire OS, such as the Fire TV Stick 4K Max or the Fire TV Cube. Check the operating system in the product details before buying.
