Record shows from your IPTV playlist on your TV

With BurgTV on Fire TV, Google TV and Android TV you can record a show instantly from the player or schedule it from the TV guide. It is a Premium feature for personal use. You bring the source: BurgTV is a neutral player and provides no content.

What you can do with recordings

  • Instantly from the playerWatching a channel and want to keep it? Start recording right from the player.
  • Scheduled from the guidePick an upcoming show in the TV guide and find it under Scheduled recordings.
  • Saved on the TV deviceThe file stays in the internal storage of your TV device, in the app folder.
  • Viewable at homeA small local server with a QR code, reachable only from your home network.

How to schedule a recording from the TV guide

  1. Add your source under Settings > My Lists > Add playlist (M3U, Xtream Codes, Jellyfin or Portal) and check that the guide shows programs. If it is empty, see how to add an EPG.
  2. Open the TV Guide and move to the channel and show you want.
  3. Choose to record it: the show is added to Scheduled recordings.
  4. When the show ends, the file is in Recordings, ready to watch on your TV device.

Record what you are watching right now

You do not have to plan everything ahead. If a live show catches your eye, start an instant recording from the player and BurgTV saves the stream from your source while you keep watching. Handy when an event starts earlier than expected, or when you realize halfway through the evening that you want to watch it again later.

Where recordings are stored and how much space you need

Recordings go to the internal storage of your TV device (Fire TV, Google TV or Android TV box), inside the app folder. There is no choice of destination: the space available is simply the free storage on the device. Before recording long shows, check how much room is left and delete recordings you no longer need.

Smaller devices such as HDMI sticks have little internal storage, so keep that in mind if you record often.

Watch and copy recordings at home

  • Local server: BurgTV starts a small server on the TV device and shows a QR code to reach it.
  • Home network only: it can only be reached from phones, tablets or computers on the same home network, not from the internet.
  • MP4 copy on request: if you want to keep a recording elsewhere, you can request a copy in MP4 format.

Recording vs timeshift vs catch-up

Timeshift is for pausing or jumping back a few minutes in live TV, and it does not work on HLS channels. Catch-up depends on your source: if it offers an archive, you can replay past shows. A recording, on the other hand, creates a file that stays on the device until you delete it.

Each profile has its own recordings

Since version 1.3.7, recordings, both those started from the player and those scheduled from the guide, belong to the profile that creates them: each profile sees only its own. Older recordings move to the main profile. If another profile already has a recording scheduled at the same time, BurgTV tells you.

Recordings and the Kids profile

In the Kids profile, if the title or the channel of a recording is blocked, you need the PIN to open it. Recordings are not filtered by age: the block comes from the title or the channel. To set the PIN, minimum age and channel blocking, read the parental controls guide.

Which devices and which plan

Recording is only available in the app for Fire TV, Google TV and Android TV and is part of Premium: a license on app.burgtv.com at CHF 8.90 per year (7 days free on the yearly plan) or CHF 25.90 one time, valid on up to 5 devices across TV and Android. On phones and tablets there is no recording: there you have offline viewing from your source, when your source allows it, which is a different thing. Get the app at download.burgtv.com.

Record for personal use only, respecting the rights of your source and the laws of your country. BurgTV provides no content.

Frequently asked questions

Can I record IPTV on a Fire TV Stick?

Yes. With BurgTV Premium on Fire TV (and on Google TV and Android TV) you record from the player or schedule from the TV guide. The file is saved in the device’s internal storage.

Can I record to a USB drive?

No. BurgTV saves recordings in the internal storage of the TV device and does not let you pick another destination. You can, however, request an MP4 copy over your home network.

How much can I record?

It depends on the free storage on your TV device. The app sets no fixed limit: when space runs low, delete recordings you no longer need.

Can I record on my phone or iPhone?

No, recording is TV only. Phones have offline viewing from your source, when your source allows it: that is a different feature.

Is it legal to record from my playlist?

BurgTV is a player: you record from the source you bring. Use recordings for personal use only, respecting the rights of your source and the laws of your country.

How is it different from timeshift?

Timeshift pauses live TV with a 15, 30, 60 or 120 minute buffer and creates no file. A recording saves the show on the device until you delete it.
