How to watch your IPTV playlist on Google TV and Android TV
· Checked with BurgTV 1.3.7 (TV) · 1.2.1 (Android) · 1.0.15 (iPhone/iPad)
BurgTV runs on Google TV and Android TV: the Google TV Streamer, Chromecast with Google TV, televisions with Google TV built in and Android TV boxes. It is not on the Play Store, so you install it from download.burgtv.com with the Downloader app; then it plays your M3U and Xtream Codes playlists with the remote and a TV guide. You bring the source.
Google TV or Android TV: what changes
Google TV is the interface Google puts on top of Android TV: underneath it is the same system, so BurgTV is the same app on both. What changes are the menu names, which you will find below for each device. BurgTV needs Android 7.0 or later and a device with an ARM processor, which covers practically every Google TV and Android TV sold in recent years.
Your device, one by one
Google TV Streamer
Google’s current box. It has plenty of memory, so Multi-View can show up to 4 channels together (Premium). To allow installation: Settings > Apps > Security & restrictions > Unknown sources.
Chromecast with Google TV (4K and HD)
No longer made, but still very common. Same menu as the Streamer. It has 8 GB of storage, which fills up quickly: if the installation stops for lack of space, remove apps you don’t use in Settings > Apps. BurgTV does not support “casting” from a phone: the app is installed and runs on the device itself.
Televisions with Google TV built in
Sony, TCL, Hisense, Philips and other brands. The path is usually Settings > Apps > Security & restrictions > Unknown sources; if your television names it differently, look for “Unknown sources” or “Install unknown apps” in the settings.
Android TV boxes (for example Nvidia Shield or Xiaomi)
They use the classic Android TV interface. The option is in Settings > Device Preferences > Security & restrictions > Unknown sources. Boxes with an Intel (x86) processor are not supported, because the BurgTV APK is built for ARM processors.
Install with Downloader, step by step
- Open the Google Play Store on the TV and install Downloader (by AFTVnews).
- Allow Downloader to install apps, with the path for your device shown above (Unknown sources).
- Open Downloader, type download.burgtv.com/tv.apk in the address field and confirm.
- When the download finishes, press Install, then Open. You can delete the downloaded file afterwards to free up space.
The SHA-256 fingerprint of the APK is published on download.burgtv.com: the install guide explains how to compare it.
Is BurgTV on the Google Play Store?
Not at the moment: today the TV app is installed from download.burgtv.com. Downloader is the only app you take from the Play Store, and only to download the BurgTV file. When BurgTV is published on Google Play, this page will say so.
First launch on Google TV
- At first launch BurgTV shows the Welcome screen: choose how to connect your source.
- M3U Playlist if you have a link, Xtream Codes if you have server, username and password, Portal if you have a portal address and MAC, or your Jellyfin server.
- Wait for the channels to load, then open the TV guide. To add more sources later: Settings > My Lists > Add playlist.
Detailed guides: M3U · Xtream Codes · Portal · TV guide (EPG).
Problems on Google TV and Android TV
- “App not installed”: usually not enough space or a download that was cut off. Free some space and download the file again.
- Can’t find “Unknown sources”: the name changes between Google TV and Android TV (see the paths above); some televisions also ask for confirmation the first time you open the APK.
- No picture or a green picture: in Settings > Player > Video decoding choose Software. If a channel plays without a picture, BurgTV also switches to software decoding by itself.
- Only 2 channels in Multi-View: on devices with less than 1.5 GB of memory Multi-View is limited to 2 channels.
- Buffering: usually due to the connection or the source; see how to reduce buffering.
Free and Premium
The free plan includes 1 playlist, live TV, a 3-day guide, 10 favorites and parental controls with PIN. Premium (license on app.burgtv.com, valid on 5 devices across TV and Android) adds Movies and Series, timeshift, Multi-View, recordings and profiles. The complete list is in all BurgTV features.
